Abstract

Objective: To explore the correlation between male severe intra-familial physical violence and childhood abuse. Methods: 38 participants with severe intra-familial physical violence and 38 non-DV (Domestic Violence) control participants matched according to consistent age, marriage, educational degree and economic status from a community in Mianyang, Sichuan were selected referring to severe intra-familial physical violence records by local Public Security, Juridical Department and Women's Federation. All participants were assessed by interview and questionnaires (CTS-2 and CTQ-SF). Results: (1)The age of severe intra-familial physical violence group were between 18 and 29 (65.8%); (2) Severe intra-familial physical violence group got significantly higher scores of physical, emotional, sexual abuse, physical and emotional neglect than non-DV group in childhood; (3) Severe intra-familial physical violence group got significantly higher scores of physical, emotional and sexual abuse than non-DV group recently, which was coherent with interview result; (4) Scores of physical abuse in CTQ-SF were positively correlated with those of physical abuse in CTS-2 of severe intra-familial physical violence group. Conclusion: Childhood physical abuse may have effects on male severe intra-familial physical violence; All adult males with severe intra-familial physical violence have other violence styles, including emotional and sexual violence.
