Abstract

The author defines violence as violence to the Self. He presents this violence as a defense against the threat upon identity felt when a person whose narcicissm is not strong enough to guide his pulsional nvestment is confronted with a situation in which he is "attracted to" an object. He underlines the role of adolescence as a factor, which brings the subjet's insecurity to light and is, as such, a source of violence.
