Abstract

Violence in dating couples is a serious problem, which should be taken as indicating of that it will tend to persist and worsen throughout the time. This study examines intimate partner violence beliefs and dating violence in a sample of 100 Portuguese College students. Participants completed two self-administered questionnaires—Belief Scale about Intimate Partner Violence (Escala de Crenςas em Relaςão à Violência Conjugal (ECVC)), and the Inventory of Intimate Violent Behavior (Inventário de Comportamentos da Violência Conjugal (IVC); that collected information on beliefs and actual experience with intimate partner violence. Our data suggest gender differences in the beliefs (and behaviors) accepting violence in intimate relationships, stronger for males. Differences in beliefs about intimate violence were found between the College courses.
