Abstract

Allegations of intimate partner violence involving entertainers Chris Brown and Rihanna contain multiple messages for youth and young adults. Invariably, the story has become a point of departure for discussions concerning violence against women. Countless people face this danger on a daily basis. As such, this essay works to conceptualize relationship abuse for readers seeking to engage young adults in violence prevention dialogue. More specifically, the essay illustrates ways in which information about unhealthy relationships, attitudes about gender roles, and effective communication all work together to help eradicate the larger phenomenon of violence.
