Abstract

At a time when the political status and cultural fashioning of bodies and gender identities commanded significant critical and university press attention, Christopher Cannon discovered a previously overlooked memorandum of May 7, 1380, regarding a quitclaim of Cecilia Chaumpaigne's complaint of raptus against Geoffrey Chaucer. We present a quick rehearsal of this Chaucerian episode, at once famous and obscure.
