Abstract

Reflections on the current status of research and knowledge in Suicidology have sparked a debate in the literature related to the relative strengths and weaknesses of quantitative and qualitative approaches to research in the field. The purpose of this essay is to add to this discourse by arguing against an either/or perspective on these distinctive methodological approaches, but rather to promote the use of mixed methods designs in an effort to capitalize on the strengths of both and revitalize the field of Suicidology.
