Abstract

A WebCT course for social work and nursing students combined web-based technology, an interprofessional focus, and content on violence in families. Given technological advances, increases in interprofessional collaboration, and lack of an integrated approach to violence in families, this course was developed to meet diverse needs. Student responses to such a constellation were unknown. A qualitative survey of 21 students yielded five themes describing course benefits: Broadening Horizons, Becoming a Better Practitioner, Participating on Your Own Time, Less Intimidating Participation, and Enjoying Independent Thinking; and two describing limitations: Demanding Participation and Group Work Dissatisfaction. Benefits and challenges of combining WebCT, an interprofessional focus and content aimed at an integrated perspective of violence across the lifespan are discussed.
