Abstract

Providing legal, emotional or other forms of assistance to women in distress, especially those who are victims of domestic violence, is difficult, particularly in countries where police and courts offer very little relief. Even government sectors add to the injustice by protecting those committing violence. Yet there are still organizations such as Vimochana of Banglore, India, that are able to live up to their commitment to bring justice for female victims despite all the hardships they face, not only from external forces but also from individuals that they try to help. This article presents an interview with Celine Suguna of Vimochana and offers a glimpse of the very difficult and complex task of working with women who are victims of domestic violence.
