Abstract

Eye injuries from blunt forces, penetrating objects, burns, or irritating substances cause morbidity, disability, and blindness worldwide. Most of these injuries are preventable. Throughout the lifespan males have more eye injuries than females. Nurses can help prevent eye injuries by teaching and advocating for safer practices. The goal of treating eye injuries is to preserve remaining sight and prevent further injury. Nurses can help in the rehabilitation of patients with eye injuries by working as part of the interdisciplinary team.
