Abstract

Researchers tested the biomechanics and energetic cost of locomotion in simulated partial gravity using an underwater treadmill/ballast system designed to allow the subject to mover his/her limbs through the water without noticeable translation or center of gravity alterations. Biomechanics force measurements from the embedded force platform in the underwater treadmill indicate a significant reduction in peak force for a decrease in loading level from full body weight to partial loading underwater.
