Abstract

With the increased occurrence of violence in hospitals, this article provides information on how to resolve violence in the hospital and how to help heal the emotional scars of health care practitioners involved in job-related violent acts. Techniques of conflict management include preventive methods such as observing various cues of possible violence, safety procedures when approaching a violent incident, and various appeals when attempting to persuade the violent person to follow a safer course of action. The process of dealing with the aftermath of a violent act includes establishing a Crisis Aftermath Plan (CAP).
