Abstract

A race prejudice questionnaire was administered to 290 Rochester students, who were then asked to judge the racial background of 45 second generation Mediterraneans, Jews, and North Europeans pictured on lantern slides. Almost half of the faces were misclassified, failing to fit the stereotypes, although others were nearly always classified correctly. There was a negligible correlation between prejudice and correctness of classification, but earlier findings were confirmed in showing less prejudice among women, non-veterans, teachers, and upperclassmen.
