Abstract

The factors involved in skidding including some which are not under the control of the highway engineer are discussed. It is pointed out that the chief factor in skidding, surface texture, can be controlled by the engineer. How tar surfaces can be made nonskid is shown by the discussion of the types of aggregates and the reasons for selecting particular aggregates for particular uses.
