Abstract

In this paper a Finite Element Model (FEM) of the human body for the purpose of simulating damage during vehicle side impact situations is described. The FEM consists of the skeleton bones modeled with shell elements and the surrounding soft tissue representing muscles, ligaments and internal organs modeled with solid, membrane and spring-damper elements. Results of the model validation with cadaver sled test data are presented which show satisfactory correlation.
