Abstract

Most unfavorable effects of alcohol in the ordinary daily activities are due to the loss of behavioural control. Driving accidents, for instance, may be considered one of the behaviour disorders, which are manifestations of underlying disturbances in mental performance. For this reason, psychophysiological researches on the changes in the results of mental task under the condition influenced by alcohol. In another side, alcohol accelerates heart beat for a considerable duration. The peak of heart rate level, which is reached half to one hour after a single drink, corresponds approximately to the peak of blood alcohol level. After the peak, in about 6 to 8 hours, the heart rate decreases gradually to the pre-alcohol level. Consequently, the heart rate level is considered as some of the indices of inebriety. In the experiment conducted with male volunteers, the relationship between changes in the results of repeated mental task test in the process of alcohol intoxication and the corresponding changes in heart rate level was examined.
