Abstract

The likelihood of combined use of alcohol and another drug has substantially increased. Epidemiological studies in the United States indicate that alcohol drinkers are more likely to use psychoactive drugs than are non-drinkers. There is epidemiological evidence that such combined use is reflected in roadside accident rates. In this paper a brief review of studies of joint alcohol-drug use on driving-related behaviour is given. The drugs discussed are minor and major tranquilizers, marihuana, barbiturates, stimulants, antidepressants and antihistamines. (TRRL)
