Abstract

During the last three years there has been a 10.2% reduction in fatalities in road accidents in France. This is attributed to a national program with a target of 50% reduction in traffic accident casualties. The French research programme in land transport is described, including an accident database, accident prevention and intelligent transport systems. Participation in European research projects is described.
