Abstract

Requirements have been developed for the design of a fifth percentile female version of the NHTSA THOR male dummy. These include the necessary anthropometric requirements and appropriate scaling of dynamic responses of the 50th percentile male THOR frontal crash dummy. The biomechanical requirements include scaled versions of responses for the head, neck, chest and knee. They also include a set of new scaled requirements for the face, kinematic response of the neck in frontal and lateral flexion, impact to the abdomen, responses of the ankle in dorsiflexion/plantarflexion and inversion/eversion, and response of the tibia to dynamic axial heel impact.
