Abstract

This is the powerpoint presentation that accompanied the presentation made at the 19th International Technical Conference on the Enhanced Safety of Vehicles on the 2005 electronic stability control (ESC) research program of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Individual pages list the following: program objectives; ESC effectiveness criteria; government and industry collaboration; final maneuver selection; upcoming research; conclusions; and sources for additional information. The conclusions listed are: ESC research is a top priority for NHTSA; A test maneuver capable of evaluating ESC effectiveness has been selected; Preliminary ESC effectiveness criteria have been identified, refinement is underway; and The collaborative testing effort between NHTSA and industry has been very successful.
