Abstract

This paper presents a model of motorway traffic merging behavior that tries to capture both the acceleration and the gap-acceptance behavior of the merging traffic, and also the cooperative behavior of the motorway traffic. The paper presents the model formulation, sensitivity analysis of some of the key model parameters, initial simulation tests on a standard merging section, and their comparison with observations.
