Abstract

More youth die from road traffic accidents than from any other cause. While global in nature, the problem is significantly acute in developing nations, in which more than 90% of road traffic accident deaths occur. Such high statistics are blamed both on human mindset and traffic infrastructure. The author investigates which of these road safety aspects need to be tackled first. Issues discussed include grant and aid funding, program implementation and management, and intervention efforts by developed nations. An insert provides information on the recent Making Roads Safe conference
