Abstract

Active safety systems offer the promise to deliver huge advances in traffic safety. Although radar-based Adaptive Cruise Control has been around for many years, newer technology is enabling the automotive industry to take the next step with collision detection and mitigation systems. This article looks specifically at Data Fusion, the technique of combining radar and vision systems, as a means to help drivers avoid collisions entirely through the use of multiple sensor systems.
