Abstract

Roundabouts, a kind of adaptation to traffic circles, are gaining attention across the country. Three characteristics that distinguish roundabouts from traffic circles are yield-at-entry, deflection, and flare. This article reports that roundabouts are successful because they reduce injury accidents, traffic delays, fuel consumption, air pollution, and construction costs. Two Maryland roundabouts are featured.
