Abstract

The objectives of the study described were two fold. The first of these objectives was to utilize the UTCS-1 simulation model to test various signal control strategies on an urban arterial in the city of Columbia, South Carolina in order to determine the optimum strategy to be utilized during the AM Peak hour. The second important objective was to illustrate the procedures by which the traffic engineer could utilize UTCS-1 to analyze various signal control strategies prior to implementation.
