Abstract

A study is reported which is based on information collected over a 3-year period from the monthly accident reports for both the city and the governorate of Irbid. The accident frequency and severity are discussed, as well as the accident types and accident causes. The accident severity, based on the number of injuries and fatalities, decreased in 1984 in the city and governorate. The severity of the accidents in the city is significantly lower than that in the governorate at large. Accidents with overturning vehicles rarely occur inside the city limits, and are largely a governorate problem. Inattention is the most frequently cited cause of accidents in both the city and the governorate.
