Abstract

Existing methods that can be employed in a study of road accidents are reviewed and discussed, in relation to the amount of information derived from the application of the method, and the effectiveness of that method in the remedial situation. The use of a statistical quality control technique, together with a study of accident records is proposed as a more effective means of identifying the cause of accidents. Accident data obtained from a study of road accidents that occurred at the intersection of Melrose street with Carling avenue, Ottawa, Canada, for the three years 1966 to 1968 has been used to demonstrate the application of the proposed method. /TRRL/
