Abstract

Outdoor and street lighting in North America is predominantly yellow in color, since the main form of lighting used is high pressure sodium lamps. There has been a recent push to use white light (metal halide lamps) instead. This paper discusses the arguments for and against the use of white light for outdoor lighting, and notes that there is increasing evidence for its lighting benefits.
