Abstract

The City of Scottsdale, Arizona traffic signal division has concluded an evaluation of new technology for traffic signal illumination. After careful study and testing, the use of Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs) in place of incandescent light bulbs has proven successful. Light emitting diodes are semi-conductors that apply voltage to specific elements to produce light of various colors. The test results have been extremely positive, and have demonstrated that the claimed energy savings are valid.
