Abstract

This article describes a crash test data exercise that was presented to participants at a recent Accident Reconstruction Communications/Collision Safety Institute conference. Although some crash test data for a specific collision was provided to participants, the goal was to have the participants determine the speed range for each vehicle in the collision. The results of the calculations with estimated and measured inputs were then compared to the results of actual crash test data. Although participants used different ways to estimate the angles necessary in the calculation, most calculations were reliable, especially when the speed estimates were bracketed with a range.
