Abstract

This article describes how photogrammetric modeling and image-based rectification can be used to measure evidence from crash scene photos. In the case study examined, a single photograph was taken by a police officer and used to reconstruct the position of vehicles involved in a head-on collision. The photograph was rectified using low-cost image-based measuring software, where the camera aim point was transformed into a normal view. From the normal view provided by the rectification, the photo could be accurately measured using a photogrammetry software program to help clarify what happened in the collision.
