Abstract

Sensing diagnostic modules (SDMs) in General Motors vehicles are capable of evaluating and storing data from multiple events. These SDMs contain the most comprehensive description of crash-related data of any supplemental restraint system accessible with the Vetronix crash data retrieval (CDR) tool. These data storage capabilities have been described thoroughly in a previous paper (Veppert, 2006). The current paper expands on those descriptions by describing the combinational logic functions that control the data storage in the 18 SDMs described by Veppert, as well as two SDMs that were unavailable at the time of Veppert's research: the SDM-C and SDM-Epsilon. These logic functions are demonstrated with visual graphics in the form of tables and ANSI-standard system flowcharts. This methodology for presenting data storage properties can be an effective reference for experienced CDR tool users and can facilitate the training of new users. Directions for future research are described.
