Abstract

Crash tests are fundamental for accident reconstruction, and are one of the most important knowledge resources for accident reconstruction experts in Europe. This article describes how visual comparison of an actual accident with crash tests can allow for a fast and simple assessment of an accident. By using visual comparison with crash tests regularly, an expert can gain a high level of experience and a good understanding of deformation absorption. Crash tests allow for a rapid and well-founded determination of important collision parameters. This technique is also a useful alternative to lengthy calculations and is especially helpful in case of accidents with special factors such as no skid marks. The visual comparison can also provide non-experts with a comprehensible visualization of the accident analysis.
