Abstract

Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) systems, which transmit ultra-wideband pulses to map subsurface conditions nondestructively, have advanced significantly in the last decade. Due to innovations in technology such as improved analysis software, data generated by the systems is much easier to interpret and can be used in mainstream maintenance and inspection. The system is safe to use and does not interfere with users' communication systems. When employed in the public sector, the system can save both time and money. For instance, the GPR can map the subsurface conditions of highways, bridges, concrete structure and can be used for utility mapping.
