Abstract

About 5,000 pedestrians are killed each year as a result of motor vehicle accidents. Pedestrian accident reconstruction is becoming critical in the field of traffic accident reconstruction. However, pedestrian accident reconstruction differs from typical motor vehicle accident construction. This article describes the background of the dilemma, presents a brief summary of past work in the field, and discusses recent methodologies of reconstruction pertaining to pedestrian walking speeds, impact orientation, and ascertaining impact speeds.
