Abstract

This article recounts the circumstances of a nighttime accident involving an automobile and a bicyclist on a rural road. Many questions are raised: How fast was the car going (no skidmarks)? Why didn't the driver see either of the bicyclists? Could the cyclist hear the car coming? Are a bike's tiny reflectors adequate at night? Should laws require nighttime bicyclists to wear bright orange reflective clothing or to stay off traveled portions of rural roads? The facts of the accident are presented, with no apparent answers given.
