Abstract

The handling and stability of a vehicle usually goes unnoticed until the operational limits are approached. The factors which influence vehicle stability should be of concern to anyone who operates a vehicle near the limit or those who must investigate crashes where the operational limit has been exceeded. The influencing factors are the same for all four wheeled motor vehicles. Some of these factors, however, affect a front wheel drive or ABS equipped vehicle differently than a rear wheel driver or conventional braked vehicle. If vehicle stability and control is to be maintained these factors must be understood by the vehicle driver.
