Abstract

To those new to the field of accident reconstruction animation, simulation, and 3-D visualization can be confusing because at a glance, they appear to be the same. The aim of this article is to help clarify the confusion between the 3 products and explain their role in litigation. The main objective of a 3-D creation is to help relay visual messages to the audience and provide continuity between complex events. For this discussion animation, simulation, and visualization are all assumed to be created in 3-D form. The article has been written based on usage of dedicated professional software packages and not based on all-in-one or a combination of computer-aided drafting (CAD), reconstruction, and animation, which are extremely limited in their ability to accomplish many needed tasks.
