Abstract

Founded in 2006, Protect New York brings together academic faculty members and others in a society that is, in the words of our subtitle, “devoted to research and education to safeguard New York from terrorism and disaster.” The purpose of the article that follows is to explain the rationales for an academic organization having this kind of purpose, thereby to persuade readers of the intellectual, scholarly, and professional values of participation through membership.
