Abstract

This research compares the attitudes of criminal justice students about nine issues of concern to older persons to the attitudes of members of three occupational groups—nursing home administrators, nursing home professionals, and police chiefs. In all, 395 individuals from the four groups were asked to rate and rank the importance of the following issues: health care needs, property crime, violent crime, war on drugs, fraud, transportation needs, personal finances, taxes, and environmental issues. Results indicate that students' perceptions about the importance of these problems are similar to the other groups' on six of the nine issues. The areas where students differed concerned their perceptions about the importance of the war on drugs, violent crime, and fraud. Implications are provided.
