Abstract

Police investigations of suspected criminal homicides in the United Kingdom are increasingly incorporating attempts to measure the impact of such incidents on communities. Drawing on fieldwork data collected through a programme of research examining social reactions to major crimes, this article explores what such developments might signal about how the criteria for success in police investigative work is being subtly reconfigured.
