Abstract

The purpose of this study was to examine the reading behaviors of 101 older adults enrolled in a summer Elderhostel Program at Hood College, Frederick, Maryland. Each person completed a one-page questionnaire, answering questions related to seven original research questions. Findings concerning these persons' reading attitudes, interests, habits, and motivations are included. Comparisons are also made between findings of this study and other reports of older persons' reading. The author suggests that a positive relationship seems to exist between reading activities and these subjects' desirable philosophy of lifelong learning. Suggestions are made for the enhancement of reading activities for all elderly individuals.
