Abstract

Bone densities, body image, and morale were compared for 73 independently-living seniors who exercised regularly in a pool, 73 seniors who attended community centers, and 12 seniors who did neither. It was hypothesized that swimmers would have superior bone mass densities, higher morale, and more adequate body images than the more sedentary center attendees, and that the longer elderly persons swam, the better their bones would be.
