Abstract

The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationships among leisure satisfaction, leisure participation, and anxiety level in retirees. Data were collected by a mail questionnaire sent to randomly selected members of the American Association of Retired Persons. Pearson product-moment correlations and stepwise multiple regression analyses were employed to examine the data (N = 225). The findings indicated that greater leisure satisfaction and leisure participation are associated with lower levels of anxiety. Activity directors, therefore, need to plan activities which not only promote participation, but also provide retirees with satisfaction from leisure.
