Abstract

As the population of older adults with developmental disabilities increases, these individuals experience a variety of changes and transitions. Maintaining a high quality of life during these changes and transitions is a critical issue for older adults with developmental disabilities, their families, and service providers. The purpose of this paper is to describe a model for integrating older adults with disabilities into community recreation and leisure opportunities. Recreation integration efforts may be difficult without accompanying leisure education, therefore, leisure education models, materials, and related programs useful in designing leisure education programs for older adults with developmental disabilities will be reviewed.
