Abstract

When developing an activity program one must first assess what the residents diagnostic needs are and then dctermine,through cooperative planning, what their activity or program needs are. The activity program should be planned around the needs of the resident and not around the requirements of the state or federal regulation. However, with the ever increasing demands being placed upon the quality and quantity of existing activity programs by state and federal regulations, it appears appropriate that we should initiate a planning s stem that incorporates the basic developmental skills. These skills are: perceptional, sensorimotor, self-help, communication, social, self-direction, affective, and cmotional stability.
