Abstract

The long-term care facility must not operate in isolation, but instead must view itself as part of the larger surrounding community. The facility should keep a current inventory of activity pmgram resources in the community and should make these resources known to residents. Because of their goals and purposes, health care facilities have on their staffs trained people who could offer excellent programs for the disabled or aging in the community who need specific treatmentrehabilitation activities. This article suggests that those in the field of recreation, be it public, private, andlor rehabilitative, should work together to meet the needs of every resident in the total community-be it youth, disabled, aged, or Joan and John Average.
