Abstract

Epidemiological studies indicate that the number of patients suffering from depression have risen. Therefore, an interest in depressive disorders has also increased. Depressive disorders are of many-sided and complex nature and thus a comprehensive study of depression conditions requires more and more numerous analyses in this respect.

A disease such as depression is strictly correlated with patient’s psychosocial functional behavior. Accordingly, the objective of this article is the description of selected psychological factors of significant importance in the case of depressive disorders. In this context, the following variables are discussed: selected personality features, beliefs and expectations, social support, coping strategies in difficult circumstances and risk of suicidal behavior.
