Abstract

This study was designed to determine the percentage of patients in a solo gastroenterology practice with both irritable bowel syndrome and histories of sexual abuse. Sixty-five patients participated in the study. These patients had an incidence of sexual abuse greater than the general population. Implications are drawn for nurses in gastroenterology practice.
