Abstract

Although commonly ascribed great health benefits, bicycling is a dangerous activity. Specific populations have different risks and, hence, different injury patterns. Following a critical review of cycling literature, an anatomic survey is made of injuries resulting from traumatic events. Current ranges of therapies are discussed and cautions regarding clinical pitfalls are posted. I have made a series of recommendations that I hope will produce a safer environment for future healthy growth in which cycling may continue to furnish economic travel, pleasure, and health to future generations.
