Abstract

The paper presents the results of empirical research which is an attempt to reconstruct the attitude of Krakow pupils of secondary schools to the problem of alcohol and drug intoxication and to show the stereotypes of an alcoholic and drug addict existing in their consciousness. The knowledge of this problem was acquired by means of own research done in a group of 488 pupils of first and third classes of acclaimed secondary schools as well as of vocational and artistic schools. The main objective of this research was the assumption that the attitude to both problems results from the situation in which the respondents are, and typical of the generation structures of axiology. The theoretical base of the research derives from two notions: firstly, from the concept of young people as a generation with specific experience. Secondly, from the analysis of both phenomena as the symptoms of deviant behaviour among young people. In the research the technique of audience survey was used. The main research instrument was the survey questionnaire. The empirical material which was gathered underwent the study of quality and quantity. In the statistical dependency analysis H. Kruskall-Wallis' importance test was used. The categories which were the most influential in differentiating the acquired results were successively: age, type of school, sex. Results obtained in empiric material analysis can be observed in following conclusions: (1) The age of respondents is determined by the students who have contacts with addicted people. (2) Drinking alcohol and experimenting with drugs is connected with older students attending Krakow secondary schools. (3) The examined students' direct contact with alcohol and psychoactive substances is 68.7% and 15.2% of all. (4) Alcoholic and drug intoxication among the examined students is determined by the influence of the peer-group
